Scott Warnock's Teaching Writing Online is simply an excellent book and should be read by anyone who teaches writing, whether face-to-face or online. It will be particularly useful to those who are contemplating teaching writing online, whether within a fully electronic environment or in a hybrid or blended classroom incorporating both face-to-face and synchronous or asynchronous environments.
Many teachers might believe that the pedagogical mysteries of learning to write well, and to teach others to write well, simply cannot be performed in an impersonal electronic environment. Warnock argues persuasively that not only is this incorrect, but that writing often can be taught better online than in conventional teaching environments.

A WORTHY READ

I found this book quite by accident as I was designing an online Capstone course. Whereas some of it is common sense to those who have developed online curriculum, the book is well laid out and had some very good "AH-HA!" moments in it that have really paved the way for clarity and success in the online Capstone course for both students and instructor. I like the varied options for assignments and the methodology for them. They provided a good bouncing off place for me to develop my own assignments.
I have referred to this book multiple times over the years and think that it is a MUST for anyone developing online curriculum.

bot exactly cutting edge

I taught a fully-online web-based class the first time in 1996, so there wasn't much new here for me. Beginning online teachers will get a lot of what I got through my own trial and error. Experienced online teachers will pick up a few pointers that are worthwhile.
